Citius! Altius! Fortius!
The 2002 Olympic Winter Games are being held in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States - basically in my back yard. From
my door-step I can see the Olympic Stadium Torch burning brightly. In tune with the Olympics, the wife and I have strung
red, white and blue lights on the house and beautifully lit olympic rings adorn the front yard.

Saturday nite the wife and I and a group headed downtown to check out the night life. It was a little shocking to find that
a beer cost $10 bucks a bottle, and dinner was a little over $78 bucks. All of the restaurants downtown have jacked their
prices up three times, and gratiuity has been upped to 22%. There are live bands playing everywhere with beer-gardens galore.
All of the downtown buildings are covered in gigantic murals of Olympic activities.
It has been one incredible party after another. At the Olympics Medals Plaza we got to see Bare Naked Ladies, Smash Mouth,
Train, and a whole other host of great live bands. The medals awards have been an amazing experience to watch. It is very
humbling to see how gracious the athletes are when they receive their medals and the flag of their country is raised to their
national anthem.
We have exactly five days left and our eyes are glued to the games. From the ariel free-style jumping to the 1500 meter skating
to the bob-sled events - this has truly been one of the greatest experiences I have ever had.
Right now, Salt Lake City is one of the safest places in the world. We have over 11,000 police, 7,000 US troops station here. F16
planes and Military Black-Hawk helicopters circle a 130x50 mile radius around the venues and the valley. Troops stand guard on the
streets in full military gear carrying fully-loaded M16 rifles. There are thousands of volunteers out to help everyone safely make it
to each destination and venue.
