The Infymus family trip to Oregon, Summer of 2007.

Kim and I finally made the decision on our vacation plans this year. We will be heading out once again to my father's house in Southern Oregon.
We will be going for two and a half weeks this time to spend a little more time with my father. So only 3 months, 2 days, 13 hours, 59 minutes and 43 seconds until we leave.
Alexis is excited. She remembers Grandpa Hoenie and the big big ocean. This last week I finished our 2007 Oregon Vacation DVD with some very good footage, even though my CAM is a piece of shit.
It will be very nice to see my father again and to let him hold his grandkids.
|
Only 2 weeks, 4 days, 14 hours, 7 minutes and 34 seconds.
This will be my view, looking South towards Whale Rock.
Fresh salt air. Crabbing. Hot tubbing. Beach combing. Agate hunting. Clam digging.
Family time.
I am counting down the days now.
|
Finally, we are here. We got in about 5:10pm (6:10pm Salt Lake Time).
We're exhausted, but it is so good to see the big big ocean.
The kids did well. Alexis's "Are We There Yet" is "Are we going to the big big ocean?" She asked us that about 30 times throughout the trip.
Spencer is going nutts looking at everything my father has out here. Alexis wants us to drive down the 100 foot cliff (dropoff) to the beach so she can dip her hands in the ocean.
Tonight, relaxing. The best thing? We haven't got plans at all for anything.

| Morning, Cup Of Coffee And Ocean Breezes Monday, Jun 11, 2007, at 08:50 AM VACATION 2007 -GUID- | | |
Here I am, standing out on the deck, cup of coffee in one hand, enjoying the cool breeze coming off the ocean. It's 50.0 degrees this morning, but should get into the upper 60's by the afternoon.
Today we'll go shopping a little to stock the fridge, but generally just hang out and enjoy the day.
|
The wind was up over 30 miles per hour yesterday so we didn't go down to the beach. We did however go into Gold Beach and ate at the Port Hole Cafe. Then we went grocery shopping and then home.
Here is a pic from the glass doors while Spencer climbs up the deck. Kim is helping her while Grandpa is watching Lexi swim in the "big hot bathtub".
I've shrunk these pictures down to fit on the site, and to cut down on space. These don't do justice, but here is a glimpse. These are both sunsets last night after quite a windy day.
Today we are going down to the beach to look for starfish, seashells and rocks, and to build some sand castles.
|
Here is a cute picture we stopped to take. This is the beach North of Gold Beach, North of the "Jetty". This year the beach is covered in sand, so not many agates to be found.
|
It is so hard to get Spencer to sit down and smile for the camera.
Look kid, camera, that way, smile!
|
Spencer found a lady bug, stuck out on the beach sand. He just had to have it. After he picked it up, he carried it for almost 15 minutes before setting it free.

| Beautiful Beaches, Wonderful Family Time Tuesday, Jun 12, 2007, at 07:49 AM VACATION 2007 -GUID- | | |
This is what it is all about. The temperature was around 60 degrees, but with a slight wind, it was a little cooler.
We looked for rocks, we dug in the sand, we ran away from the sneaker waves that got our shoes wet. When we drove back to the beach house, we all plopped in our beds and slept for hours, the beautiful end to another day.
|
I think this says it all.
|
It is good to see my father. I don't get to see enough of him. Seeing as I only get once per year these days, I take all the time I can to sit and talk with him.

| North Of Gold Beach Jetty, Looking For Agates Thursday, Jun 14, 2007, at 05:17 AM VACATION 2007 -GUID- | | |
Today I had meetings to attend and emails to answer (yes, I have had to work a bit out here), but afterwards, we hit the beach North of Gold Beach, which is directly North of the Rogue River.
Today we were looking for agates. They are prolific along the Oregon Coast. We have thousands of them that we have collected over the years.
Today I found some big ones. It is like hunting for pirate coins and is so exciting when you find them.
|
Today we visited the Cape Blanco Lighthouse.
It is amazing that one 1000 watt bulb can be seen for 27 miles. Well, when I sit in the hot tub at night looking up at the stars, to the North every few seconds I can see the Cape Blanco light flash.
|
Kim and I love Bandon Beach. We could spend hours there. This year a lot of the rock beds have been exposed so we spent a lot of time looking for agates.
Here is Spencer playing with the rocks.
|
Lexi and I took off our shoes and let the big big ocean wash around our feet. When we couldn't stand the cold any more, we'd run up to the hot sand and bury our feet in it.
Toes are awesome.
|
Here are three fresh crabs, swimming in the sink, their fates unbeknownst to them. Tonight, fresh buttered crab, baked potatoes and crisp salad.
In Salt Lake it's hard to find fresh live crab without paying out the, well, you know.
|
Today we went to Bandon Oregon again. Yesterday, our camera broke so we didn't take any pictures. We have a couple of new cameras on order and should be delivered by Wednesday (one for us, and one for Grandpa Hoenie as his father's day present).
Today I finally had beer-battered Pacific Ocean caught halibut, at $14.00 bucks a plate in Bandon. It was wonderful and totally worth the money. Then we went to the Bandon Beach and looked for agates.
On the way back we stopped at the cranberry sweets store and picked up fresh honey sticks and marmalade jam.
For dinner tonight, I treated everyone to chicken broccoli fettuccini, a specialty of mine.
Spencer is gobbling it up, so I better go eat.
|
Yesterday, Alexis and Spencer played on the deck blowing bubbles.
The rest of our pictures will be taken with my digital camcorder. Amazon didn't both to tell me that the cameras would be shipped from another location and wouldn't be here until after we had left. My dad will ship one of the cameras back to me aftewards. So these pics are much lower resolution (.75mp). But at least we have them.
Today it is slightly overcast, it was sunny earlier. There is no wind and the ocean is very peaceful this morning. Today we will be spending time in Gold Beach looking for agates.

| A Fitting End To The Day, Watching The Space Station Glow Over-Head Wednesday, Jun 20, 2007, at 09:25 AM VACATION 2007 -GUID- | | |
We just watched the Space Station come from the West and streak across the sky into the East. That's twice we've seen it now in the last few years out here.
Goodnight.
|
Today we went shopping again in Gold Beach. I don't even want to see my credit card bill. Afterwards, we went to the North Jetty just North of Gold Beach. There we played in the sand, watched the waves and looked for agates.
Lexi and Spencer both got buried in the sand. Lexi commented, "I feel like a snowman!"
Tonight Grandpa Hoenie is taking us to "Spinners", a fine restaurant in Gold Beach.
|
Today we drove an additional 30 miles past Bandon Oregon to Coos Bay. From there we headed back out to the coast to Sunset Bay.
Sunset Bay is a beautiful inland bay carved out in a clam-shell shaped area by waves. Inside the bay the beach is pure sand and a great place to play.
|
On the way back home, we picked up Dungeness Crab from Bandon.
These tasty little buggers are in for a buttery good time.
|
We also picked up two fresh Pacific Lobsters in Bandon. These are not as large as Maine or Australian, but they are quite tasty. These are for tomorrow night when we will be having ribeye steak and lobster tail.
Damn, I'm going to miss all the fresh sea food.
|
Today is the last day in this beautiful place. What a fitting end to a wonderful two weeks of bliss. Last night the sunset was the best of them all, the cloud layer on the horizon parted and the sun dipped directly into the sea.
Today we are doing laundry, cleaning out the car (we will never get all of the sand out of there), packing our bags and generally getting ready to leave. We are going to head down to the beach one more time for the kids and go out to lunch with Grandpa Hoenie.
Tomorrow we'll be out of here bright and early as we have a 13 hour drive the first day, 6 hours the next.
|
We're home. It was a long 1012 mile drive, but we're home. Spencer is sick, he has a 104.8 temp, so we are putting him in a tub of cold water trying to get his temp down. The stack of papers and bills is higher than I've ever seen, the emails have piled up and there are 48 missed calls on the phone.
Ah yes, the joys of being home. But we're here, having pizza and watching TV, letting everything slide until tomorrow.
