Last night Kim and I watched the new year come in.
Happy New Year 2004. I hope that it is a good year for everyone.
2003 was a very interesting year for me. From the anticipation of the birth of my child, to her premature birth, to being laid off for Christmas - then being hired within weeks by another company... It has been a very interesting year.
Last night my wife and I watched the new year come in. At the same time we watched all of the video we had taken of our daughter. From her long stay in the hospital to the anxiety driven moments of her first week home with us. And I truly can say that I have never been more happy in my life than now. To hold my daughter in my arms and my wife's cheek next to mine - nothing could bring more happiness.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope this new year brings joy and prosperity to everyone!

I just finished watching Alexis Journal Part 4 again. Every time I watch it the tears just flow down my cheeks. Alexis is so beautiful, so precious. In fact, I just paused, went upstairs where Kimberly is feeding Alexis on the couch, and gave them both big hugs and kisses because I love them both so much. Nothing, there is nothing that has made me happier than having this little family.
A couple of weeks ago Kim, Alexis and I sat downstairs and watched Alexis's Journals 1 through 4 together. Alexis was lying on my tummy and Kim had her cheek pressed to mine. It was more spiritual than a lifetime of trying to find God. And in it I discovered what I had been looking for my entire life was in my hands. Here it was, the joy I had been looking for. The peace that I had been looking for was found.
This early Sunday morning it is foggy outside and the temperature is around 14f degrees. It is a typical mid winter day in Salt Lake City. Snow on the ground causes a cold mass to settle at the ground level. Up above it is warmer. This warm air presses the cold air down, causing an inversion. So from the valley floor it looks like it is foggy and cloudy and the air is full of bad things to breath. From up on the benches or up in the mountains, it is warm and blue-sky sunny. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can work on my cars!
Today we are heading out to Kim's parents for dinner and to be with them.
Work is progressing but it is progressing slowly. There are three coders on the team. Myself, Ron Huemiller and Nathan Bayles. I'm not sure about the spelling. Ron is 45 years old and Nathan is 34. Nathan was just made Lead Developer over the team. I have no problem with that, I have worked with Lead Developers and Senior Engineers my entire career.
It has been difficult to get into this new project. They do this in such an abstract way. I will have to learn many new things and new concepts while I work here, and I will have to learn them quickly.
So far I am picking things up, but I need to work harder to get things done. I've spent two weeks now searching their directories, running their programs, compiling their code. This week I have 5 days to finish the project that I've been given, and I need to get it done before that so it can be tested. All three of us have been given projects to complete by Friday, but they have had more time than I have.
Anyway, off to make breakfast for Kim, Alexis and I.
