My friend Eric and I have been talking about getting into Lord Of The Rings Online (LOTR) for almost six months now. We played EQ2 again together for about two and a half months, but it just didn't cut it in the end. I cancelled my subscription to World Of Warcraft last month.

Eric picked up LOTR a couple of weeks ago and began playing. So while down at WalMart, I saw the game whilst picking up other things and grabbed it. I've read over the manual now for over a week, and I'm really excited to see it.

Today I installed and played to level 3.

I was just dissapointed on the Lands(whatever) server, "Hollan" was taken. So I logged as Jehunnin, a human female burgler in the Bree lands.

Loot Window On Top Of Roll Window

This has got to be the most annoying thing yet for me. I am sick of having to move the loot window OFF THE TOP of the roll window.

If at all possible please make the window remember WHERE it was??? It's random but it is ALWAYS on the top!

Good grief!

On top of that, once the loot window is up and the greed window is behind it, the CHAT window can't be clicked on...

So you can't TALK while waiting to loot. Who in the world designed it that way???

Sometimes it's a greed object as vendor trash, sometimes it's not so sometimes you need to ask your fellowship. It's just good gaming practice. But being FORCED to click the roll window before you can do anything is insane.

Please please please please please look into this.

Ok back to playing.

Getting Bored With Lord Of The Rings Online

After playing Lord Of The Rings Online for the last month and nearing level 20, I have started to become bored with the game. It doesn't necessarily mean that I am going to stop playing it, just not play it as much as I was before.

I mean, seriously, there are a lot of issues with the game.

As a level 20 Guardian, I still only have 4 different combat moves I can use. If I manage to trigger a heroic action (or whatever it is they call it), I have a possibility of two more, depending upon which action is triggered.

The Auction House is cumbersome and difficult to use. On top of that due to the lack of players playing the game, the items are sparse and extremely costly.

Each time I die now I have to spend almost 30 silver to fix. I don't even get that much silver when I'm turning in quests or selling items - unless I want to grind or play the auction house full time.

The quests that I'm doing now all require fellowships. And my guardian - who is supposed to be a tank - is a total puss when it comes to fighting. I'm level 20, but two level 17's can nearly kill me and they are not elite.

The weapon I'm carrying I've had for 10 levels. Why? Because I can't afford the 750 silver it costs to get a better weapon right now.

Don't get me wrong - Lord Of The Rings Online is a beautiful game. I just wish they would take the world, item and game play from WOW, combine it with the guild, auction and combat system of EverQuest 2 - and the graphic engine and landscape of Lord Of The Rings. Then you would have a way cool game.

Naw, my playing now has been sparse as I log in, look around, get instantly bored, and log out.

I've said it before; I'll say it again. My gaming days are coming to an abrupt end. Games just bore me. I'd rather be reading, or watching movies, or be outside.

I'll still play Lord Of The Rings (LOTORO), but I also activated my WOW account and have been playing both. It isn't like I dislike either games, or my friends who I share those games with - I just get easily bored, especially when there hasn't been a single game out there that has compared to WOW.

Meanwhile, I have this sixth book in the Harry Potter series to finish.

Cancelled Lord Of The Rings Online

I cancelled and archived off my Lord Of The Rings Online Game (LOTORO).

I haven't had any real reason to play since Herrix decided he wasn't going to talk to me anymore because I played a little World Of Warcraft (WOW) rather than play with him. I was already bored with the game to start and without him in game; there was no reason to stick around. But to be put on ignore over the last five days because I wasn't going to be in LOTORO with him was childish. I do have other friends who play other games. I reserve the right to play whatever game I want and when I'm bored with one, I move onto another. No wonder people call Herrix my "In Game Wife".

LOTORO is great when you first start because it is a brand new world. However, very quickly you begin to realize that the game is just so small. The landmass size is a bout 30 percent of the size of one of WOW's continents. The auction house is put together horribly, the interface for it makes it extremely painful to use. The prices once you hit level 20 are so outrageous you would have to play the auction house full time just to be able to afford anything.

The combat system is immature for a game made by a mature gaming company. My level 20 guardian (tank, warrior) had 5 main commands he could use. In EverQuest II, I would have had three times that. In WOW, I would have had close to 10 different commands. There are problems with loot tables, windows on top of other windows (one of my greatest pet peeves) and other user interface problems.

The game is brand new and it is way too small, the quests are too easy until you hit level 20 - then you have to be in a group for nearly everything. If you die, you end up paying almost 30 silver (which is very hard to come by unless you seriously want to grind) in repairs.

The only thing LOTORO has going for it is a beautiful graphic engine. But if you don't have a real game behind it, you just don't have a game.

And no, Herrix, I'm not going to just sit back and agree stating that it's a “NEW GAME” and we should just ignore those problems and just play it. There are standards in MMOG games that every MMOG should adhere to. Those who don't are going to fall to the wayside. Each game can be as unique as they want, but when functionality you expect in every MMOG isn't applied then the game isn't worth playing in the long run.

I may come back to this game next year when it has matured.
