Happy New Year 2008

Again, January is upon us. This will be my 39th January, and my 40th year of life.

I hope to accomplish many things this year. Spending more time with my kids and wife, selling my old house, getting my Miata (of which I may not get as I'm over-extended) and many more things.

A new year, a new house. I have no idea how my garden will grow. I have no idea how things will turn out. It is all brand new.

Onward, to a brand new year.

A New Year With New Objectives

I'm finally starting to get used to this house. I've found my boxes of my computer and gaming books, my posters, my computer network parts and all. My computer room is mine and Kim has no say as to what I put up on my walls in here. I've got Everquest II pics, Grand Theft Auto and even original Ultima Online posters up. I put a big bookshelf up and filled it with my computer books - some going back into 80's.

When you live in a house for an extended period of time you begin to know where things are. The most obvious are the clocks. When you want to know what time it is, you instinctively turn your head towards where a clock is and know. When you move, you have no idea. Case in point, my father had a nice clock on his wall in his beach house. Every time I go out there, I look at the wall where it was, and it is gone. He long since moved it to another house, but for me, the clock still remains where it was and I have to look twice to see what time it is.

Each year brings us objectives that we want to fulfill. Who gives a shit about the top list like weight loss and what not. I want to live more, grow emotionally and bond more with my kids. Alexis and I are like two peas in a pod, we are soul mates, however, Spencer is more bonded with his momma and I have not yet grasped a connection to him. There is no love withheld to him from me at all and I treat them both equally - yet I still need to find out how this little man ticks.

Those of you with kids would know. Your first is amazing. You take thousands of pictures, hours of movies, spend hours upon hours teaching and loving. Your second, well, not as much as the first - and I'm sure if you have three, four or five, they all get lost in translation.

I don't want that with Spence, so I have been taking him down the roads I took with Lexi. He sits in my lap to watch me play video games. He now has his own computer that he can turn on and play video games on. I hold him, watch him carefully and look for idiosyncrasies that make him who he is. I think this year will be the key. The little man turns 2 years old on the 13th of this month. We are holding a big party with lots of family to come over and see.

This year. What does it entail?

I'm dying to meet my Miata. I have pictures of her on my desktop - well, someone else's Miata, but it is the same color and configuration as mine. I can't wait until the weather warms and I can dig my hands into the soil and get my garden going. My kids love the fresh tomatoes and food that comes from it, and I love watching them tend it. My father, I can't wait to see him again - it has been six months and will be six more months before I get to see him again. We are going out over the July 4th weekend this year and staying at his Sand Castle beach house. I can't wait to hold him in my arms and tell him face to face that I love him.

Then there is the old house. We have to get it ready to put on the market by April. I think that April will be the perfect time to list it. All will be painted and ready, the grass will be starting to green, and it will be warmer out. That's only 3 months from now. Only. We have a lot of work to do to get it ready, including paint, carpet and some carpentry work from our good friend Randall (the man who built my theatre room).

Yes, indeed, it is going to be an interesting year. I will create another topic for our old house, just to put down what is going on there, but my Infymus topic doesn't change until March when I turn 40. Who said forty? Dear god, forty.

Ah well. I've got lasagna cooking in the oven, I'd better go take care of that.

Good To Be Home

It's good to be home. There is nothing like sleeping in your own bed.

The first thing that I did when I got back was eat an American breakfast. Two pieces of strip bacon, a piece of ham, two eggs over easy and some hash browns. It was the best breakfast I'd had in over two weeks.

Course I get home and everything seems to be skiwampus. Stuff was missing, things were misplaced. I don't know what my wife would do if I were suddenly not around - except disappear under a mound of life.

Yes, I bring order to chaos, even if I am chaos myself.

It has been good holding my kids and watching Cars and Finding Nemo. I just wish I could figure out where the Netflix discs went before I have to pay $20 bucks a piece for them.

Flying coach sucks big time. Upgrading to business may be a lot better, even if it is $150 bucks or more - it is totally worth it having all that legroom.

I hate airplanes and how they pack you in like sardines.

Today the weather was fantastic; we were almost up to 50 degrees F today. Don't let Mother Nature fool you, it will dump ass shit in before long.

So many things to do - this whole week I will be up at the old house getting it ready to paint. Have to buy 15 gallons of paint to do the whole house. It is gonna be hell.

And the jet lag, my god, I thought it would be easy because going over was, but coming back was abysmal. I finally got SOME sleep last night and I *think* that I am on MST time zone time again finally. It is hard when your body thinks it is supposed to be awake when it is time to go to bed.

I'm outta here.

It has been four decades now. I'll be spending the day with close friends and family. We won't be up working on our old house this weekend as I need a break from routine.

Tonight it will be fine wine, inch thick ribeye steaks and barbequed shrimp on the kabob.

Hello Forty.

Onions

I love onions. I grew up eating onions. My father cooked with onions. They are a nutritious vegetable and a base for thousands of dishes. They can be cut, sliced, diced, deep fried and more. I can eat them raw (in small quantities), I love them in just about everything. I love them cooked with butter on top of steaks. I love them in soups, gravy dinners, and spaghetti. I love onions that have been soaked in vinegar and spices.

Wiki states the following:
Evidence suggests that onions may be effective against the common cold, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other diseases. They contain anti-inflammatory, anticholesterol, anticancer, and antioxidant components such as quercetin.

The higher the intake of onion, the lower the level of glucose found during oral or intravenous glucose tolerance tests. Experimental and clinical evidence suggests that allyl propyl disulfide is responsible for this effect and lowers blood sugar levels by increasing the amount of free insulin available. Allyl propyl disulfide does this by competing with insulin, which is also a disulfide, to occupy the sites in the liver where insulin is inactivated. This results in an increase in the amount of insulin available to usher glucose into cells causing a lowering of blood sugar.

In addition, onions are a very good source of chromium, the mineral component in glucose tolerance factor, a molecule that helps cells respond appropriately to insulin. Clinical studies of diabetics have shown that chromium can decrease fasting blood glucose levels, improve glucose tolerance, lower insulin levels, and decrease total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL-cholesterol levels. Marginal chromium deficiency is common in the United States, not surprising since chromium levels are depleted by the consumption of refined sugars and white flour products as well as the lack of exercise. One cup of raw onion contains over 20% of the Daily Value for this important trace mineral.
My wife, hates onions. Over the first decade of our marriage, I slowly worked her into eating them. Then, when she was pregnant with Alexis, she instantly hated them again.

Tonight, I cooked hamburger mixed with onion soup and minced onions With mashed potatoes and gravy, the pre-mixed hamburger, soup and onions turns the hamburger into a Salisbury steak.

Immediately Alexis left the table, spitting her dinner into the garbage. My wife's hatred of onions has spilled over to my daughter, and now my daughter thinks everything has onions in it. She has this paranoia of onions. She asks me every time I cook dinner if there are onions in it and I have to lie to her that no, there are no onions in it. Even dishes I cook that have no onions she will often gag on thinking somehow there are onions embedded within it.

Onions are the spice of life, but not in this household.

So today, I threw out every onion in the house. Threw out all the minced onion mixes. Threw out all the onion soups.

The day of the onion in the Infymus home is over. Forever.

This week my Verizon Wireless account was up. I went into the Verizion store to find out what kinds of deals these guys could give me.

I tell you, when your contract expires with a wireless company, they kiss your ass to get you to come back. And why not.

My boss at work has a Motorola Q, and I have been impressed with it. Loads of features, Mobile 6 included, I decided to check it out.

With a new 2 year contract, the phone was only $79 bucks.

This phone is awesome and totally customizable and I stuck my hot mug right on the screen.

It syncs up with everything so I can keep up with work 24hrs a day.

Cool phone.

There's this commercial from a few years back where an Internet provider is saying that their net is so fast, you will reach the end.

In it, they have a guy who hits the end of the Internets. The computer says to him, "You have reached the end of the Internet. Please go back."

I always thought that anyone who reached the end of the Internet would need a shitload of therapy.

Everything is out there, should you wish to find it.

I don't write in my journals anymore as I write pretty much everything on my blog. So I've decided that since all my time for personal life reflection is going into the blog, I'd better start getting more pictures of the kids onto the website.

So I've decided from hereout I'd begin posting pictures of the kids and family, one set of pictures each month.

That'll do donkey, that'll do.
