Last year my daughter was born premature due to pregnancy complications. Mother spent two weeks in the hospital recovering while my daughter spent nearly two months. Total bill? Just under $150,000 dollars. The company that I was with at the time had excellent coverage and we were covered 100% after the first co-payment. Two months later I was laid off by that company and found work with a small software development shop. While I looked for work I had to pay Cobra which came to nearly $900 dollars. The new company that I work for the premiums are $350 a month. Out of pocket is 20% of all costs up to $2000 dollars per person or $4000 dollars per family. This year alone with Cobra, premiums, medications, and 20% I will have paid nearly $8500 dollars OUT OF POCKET in medical expenses.

From what I have seen, that should increase by another $1000 to $2000 dollars next year as the health care premiums and costs go up every 12 months. Pretty soon I will not be able to afford health care anymore. That of course, is impossible. If I did not have health coverage last year with my daughter's birth, I would have been totally bankrupt. I would have lost my home, my property and all my holdings. Health Care would put my family on the street.

If you are elected, John Kerry, what will you do and what can you do to change the Health Care System?

I Want To Run Through The Halls Of My High School

I attended Skyline High School in Salt Lake City for two and a half years. By the middle part of the third year, I couldn't stand it any more and I dropped out. What a social scene high school was. Within 30 days I had finished the credits required of graduation and went immediately to work. That was 19 years ago.

I don't know what hair got into me, but the wife and I drove over to the high school after hours and walked the halls. With Lexi on my shoulders, we visited my lockers and classrooms from all three years. Everything looked so small, so cramped, yet visions in memory that I have are larger. Sad in a way. So in the end, to cheer things up, we went and got ice creme.

Peace,
Infymus.

In 1983 I traded in my TI994A home computer for an Atari 800. I had always wanted the 800, but it was out of my dad's price range. I spent my first year on the TI and I was ecstatic.

A couple months later I picked up my first modem, an mpp300e. Variable 300-320 baud modem supported built in Xmodem transfer. I set up my first BBS called Lord Hoenie's Castle. It was from the hours of 10pm to 6am. The phone calls to log onto the bbs all times of the day quickly ended that and I got my own phone line.

I ran BBS after BBS until I picked up my first PC in 1986 where I switched to Colossus BBS software. From there, Collie BBS, my own self-written BBS I called Caligra and finally PCBoard.

Some of the boards I ran: The Rat Trap, The Gamers Edge, Coronis, Morabis, Sanctuary, Lord Hoenie's Castle, and probably half a dozen other ones.

I ran a board every year from 1983 to 1995 when I finally shut down my BBS "The Gaming Edge". The internet was on the horizon and nobody was doing dialup anymore.

Within a year I had my first website up and by 1997 was running websites full time.

Now I am running a handful of sites, Infymus.com, smithysanvil.com, breaker-house.com, avobase.com, caligra.com and mormoncurtain.com.

Once a SySop, always a SySop.

This morning in my Kellog's Raisin Bran I found this huge flake. It measures 2 inches by 1.5 inches.

I tried to find Elvis, or the Pope, or Jesus in it, but alas, I could not.

Can't believe it has been 37 years. Ah well, 37 hasn't been very hard at all. Now 30 was hard because you are no longer in your twenties, you're no longer "young". I suppose that 40 will be just as difficult, maybe not.

The wife, my daughter and I got to Ruby River Restaurant about 6:30pm and the place was packed. We had to wait 40 minutes for a seat and that proved especially difficult for Alexis. Being a year and a half old is hard enough, but having to sit quietly 40 minutes is just insane. A couple fits were thrown but she handled it well.

Finally we got our table and after a couple of beers, I didn't really seem to mind Alexis banging her spoon on her plate. The filet mignon was absolutely perfect and the sampler plate was excellent. Total cost: $71 dollars.

Later it was cake and ice cream and a hyper little girl bouncing around on the bed.

For some amusement, and something totally irrelevant go check this out: http://www.michaelbach.de/ot/mot_mib/index.html

Self-Checkout Is Convenient? NOT!

This weekend I stopped at the new Home Depot to pick up things I needed around the house. When I was done I had at least 15 twelve foot boards, 20 two foot dowels, lots of miscellaneous sprinkler parts and more. When I got to the checkout stand there was no checkout stand. There was a huge line that was being herded through the "self checkout" section.

Here, patrons were forced to take their items out of their carts, run them through the scanner and then place them on the scale to be weighed. What a joke. I had to run each dowel through and set it down, each part through and set it down, and of course, the toilet bowl and twelve foot boards wouldn't fit on the scale so I had to get help. The woman standing at the computer watching everyone had to monitor four stations and of course everyone at all four stations needed help. Pretty soon the line was growing and you could see the frustration on everyone's faces. The man behind me asked what in the world was Home Depot thinking and I, aloud (as I usually do) said I had no idea and I thought the whole self-checkout sucked. I said so loud enough to ensure that everyone heard me including management. I got approving nods from some people behind me and hopefully they will begin to open more check stands, however, I highly doubt it.

I think the thing that tweaked me out the most was the old lady in front of me with a parrot on her shoulder. Yes, a parrot.

I have a lot of articles published on this site that no longer reflect Infymus.COM. I have removed those topics and those posts. I no longer report on spyware, adware, RIAA, etc, but I still get a lot of searches that bring hits to the site for those areas. I don't need or want them anymore so I have removed several hundred (probably around 800+) posts that deal in that area. This site is soley a blog site for myself and not a reported news site.

Peace,
Infymus.

Having kids means you will get sick ... A LOT. Last year I had five colds in a row, one about every three weeks. Now I have another cold and it's downright miserable. Lexi doesn't sleep much at night which means momma doesn't sleep which means I don't sleep. And then I try to function on 4 or 5 hours of sleep while trying to code for the man.

Ok, that's it. Nobody is going outside the house anymore.
