| What Did I Tell You About Mother Nature? Posted: Feb 19, 2007, at 07:52 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
You just can't trust her. 52°f yesterday and this today:
But the aftermath is absolutely beautiful. Ignore the house and the power lines, and look at the beauty of Mount Olympus in my back yard.

| Finally, The Garage Is Mine Once Again Posted: Mar 18, 2007, at 04:37 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
All winter there has been junk piling up in the garage, making it so the cars barely fit. Ok, I said cars and I really meant car because it is a carport that I converted into a garage.
Anyhow, now the garage is mine again. Here I am after cleaning it out - spraying it down, getting all the winter dust and dirt out. I am the kind of person who finds peace of mind when things are in their proper places. I'm not to the obsessed point of OCD, however, I find peace and happiness when things are not out of place.
Today it was nearly 75F degrees at our house.
When we were all done, Lexi and I went down to the 7-11 and got slurpees. What a great day.

| Time To Put The Farmer Hat Back On And Get The Garden Going Posted: Apr 28, 2007, at 05:01 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
It's that time of year again, time to garden. And with that, out comes the hat.
The garden is set. We planted 27 tomato plants (three in big planters), 16 green peppers, 16 cucumbers (two varieties), 4 cantelope, 4 honey melons, 1 zucchini, 1 crookneck squash and 4 pumpkin plants (in hopes we will get better pumpkins this year).
The sprinkling system is ready to go so we can keep it watered. This year we are going to try some different methods in feeding everything and we hope we will get good melons.
We also have sweet basil and chives growing out there from last year. I'm surprised at how strong and sweet the basil is.
Alexis loves tomatoes and cucumbers. Last year we only planted one plant and only got a few cucumbers - and they were not the variety that she really likes. Hopefully this year we will get an abundance of vegetables.
I love being in the garden with my kids. Showing them how to plant and take care of the vegetables. In a few months they will be rewarded with vegetables you could never get at the store. On top of that, having a garden gets the whole family outside together. Anything that turns into a family activity is a plus.
I hope your gardens are ready to go.

| Garden Is Doing Well Posted: Jun 3, 2007, at 10:12 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The tomato plants are a foot tall now and growing well. I have been feeding them miracle grow once per week, soaking the leaves and roots well. We are going to have a great crop.

| The Garden Growing Posted: Jun 30, 2007, at 04:51 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The garden is doing well, but not as well as I'd like.
I think this fall I am going to get a huge cartload of horse manure and till it in well to the garden. Perhaps next year we will do better. For now, I will continue to miracle grow everything.

| Easter Lillies Blooming In The Front Yard Posted: Jul 11, 2007, at 04:46 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The size of this picture doesn't do justice. These are gorgeous.
Kim planted these earlier this spring.

| Fresh Garden Salads Posted: Jul 24, 2007, at 01:25 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Today we had our first cucumbers from the garden. Fresh, crisp and tastey.
We are going to have a great crop of cantaloupe as well.
The pumpkins didn't fair and no watermelon. Next month we will have a great deal of tomatoes.
I love gardening.

| The Garden, Late July Posted: Jul 28, 2007, at 03:04 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The garden has been doing very well, within an exception of a few items. We have been getting a lot of cucumbers and green peppers. Once the tomatoes ripen, we will have plenty of them.
It is almost August, the last quarter of the summer. I am not looking at all forward to the fall at this time.

| September Snows Posted: Oct 1, 2007, at 04:09 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Today is the first day of October, meaning that we now need to start decorating for Halloween.
This is what we had on Saturday:
A sign of impending winter. It is time to get the yard taken down and ready for the cold.

| It Is Amazing How Fast Seasons Change In Salt Lake City Posted: Oct 6, 2007, at 04:12 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
It was just a few short weeks ago we had nothing but 100F + degree days. The leaves are not even off the trees yet and here comes the snow.
Here is Alexis and Spencer, tasting their first drops of cold snow on the back lawn. The leaves are not even gone from the trees yet and there is an inch out there.
We have decorated the house now in Halloween lights and they are on every night. Soon we will trick-o-treat!

| Side Yard Cleaned Up, Time For Awning And New Fence Posted: Oct 10, 2007, at 04:54 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2007 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The entire side yard has now been cleaned out. Rocks, junk, the whole works - including the fence that the neighbors broke when remodeling their home.
Now to get the awning put in. It is going to be an 18 foot long by 10 foot wide awning that will go from the side of the house to the property line. White, non flamable covering that you can jump on to keep the snow away. And then just a couple short months from now, my 2008 Miata MX5 will be parked here, covered, safe - until spring arrives.
