| The Yard Sale Posted: Jul 29, 2006, at 02:39 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2006 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Kim has started cleaning out sixteen years worth of items from the basement storage. I am so proud of her, I can't even speak. The house is a wreck as we have been boxing up old items and getting them out into the garage. This weekend we had a big sale and have made almost $300 already. Next weekend we are going to put out even more "stuff".

I've had a pretty good crop of tomatoes this year. I planted 26 tomato plants, four different varieties. I lost about 7 plants during the course of the year, early frost, heavy rain and some very large hail. Even so, I've enough tomatoes to make about 10 gallons of spaghetti sauce. Once that's made, it'll go into 4-cup bags for a total of around 50 bags. Then once frozen in our basement freezer, it will give us fresh spaghetti sauce to last until next fall at about one bag per week. Anything else left over will be chopped and used for cooking throughout the winter.
Here I am in my farmer hat carrying in a box that will be my first batch of sauce.

| Temperatures Are Dropping And The Rain Is Falling Posted: Sep 16, 2006, at 07:26 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2006 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
The temperature outside is only 38 degrees here at 7am this fine, cold Saturday morning. The leaves on the mountains are already red and orange, and our English Walnut tree out front is ready to drop its leaves. It is the first to go in the fall and the last to come out in the spring.
Here is a webcam shot of Salt Lake City this morning:
Next weekend we are having our final yard sale and then everything that is in the garage (and I tell you, the garage is FULL) will be going to charitable organizations. Then I can have my garage back and get the cars ready for winter.
I was not prepared this year for how quickly fall came. Only two days ago it was 90 degrees. Most of this summer has been long and hot. Usually I'm ready for fall, but for some reason this year I'm not quite sure what I'm feeling. I am not looking forward to the bitter cold, the snowy roads and the Utah drivers.
First weekend of October I will be taking both cars into the garage, oil and fluid changing - including wipers and rotating the tires. On my car, it's almost time to take the 18" summer rims off and put the stock rims back on so I can at least get around in the snow.
Hello fall, we meet again.

The English Walnut tree out front is ready to drop its leaves.
Yesterday I took the garden down and tilled it up for the winter.
There is so much more to do. I've gotten half the bamboo cut down, the cooler covered, the lawns mowed and the list goes on. Still have to stain the deck before the snow flys.

| Almost Ready For Winter, Just A Few Things Left To Do Posted: Oct 15, 2006, at 06:07 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2006 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
I am almost finished with the house. Today all of the "outside" toys were put away for winter and I stained the deck. Yep, that color is Boudrouex.
And of course while other trees are still green, most in yellows and reds - our tree has abandoned us to our winter fate.
We are supposed to get some serious rain this week stating Monday. The last thing to do is put the hoses away - but that I wait until we get our first freeze.

| December Once Again Posted: Dec 3, 2006, at 09:07 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2006 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Right now it is 11.7F degrees outside. Because of Mount Olympus behind us, the sun won't hit the house until almost 9:45am, leaving us in the cold for quite some time. With the cold we've had lake effect from the Great Salt Lake.
Here is a picture from this week as we were buried in several inches of snow.
I love the holidays as we move out of Halloween, into Thanksgiving and then into Christmas. After New Years, I settle into a funk that is hard to get out of. It is cold outside so you don't want to be out. It's dark from 5pm to 9am so you always feel like it's dark and cold. Then in Salt Lake we have these nasty inversions where bad air is trapped on the valley floor causing temperatures to be in the teens - and you can't see more than a 1/4 mile.
By the end of February I will be ready for spring I'll be going crazy. Well, only 19 more days until the Winter Equinox and we can finally begin moving back towards summer.

| Almost Time For Christmas Posted: Dec 16, 2006, at 07:52 AM Stored Under Topic: HOENIE HOME 2006 -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
It's almost time for Christmas - only 8 days away.
Tonight being Saturday night, we BBQ'd steaks and had baked potatoes, and are almost ready to sit down and watch a movie in our theatre.
Only a few more days until the Winter Solstice - and then we begin moving back towards warmth (if ever so slowly). Walks, trips to the park, the green mountains.... Can't wait.
Soon it will be Christmas! Santa! Presents!
Woot.
