Rockstar has released a second trailer for GTA : San Andreas. The official site has also been updated. Too bad us PC gamers are not going
to see this game until FALL OF 2005.

22 hours, 59 minutes and 7 seconds.
6..
5...
4..
I've already pre-purchased GTA:SA and will have it in my hands by tomorrow at 10:10am. I've scheduled vacation off from work Wed, Thur, Fri and will be playing the game five days straight.
There is NOTHING like a new GTA in your hands for the first time. Getting lost in a huge city, searching for everything, checking out the cars, finding the weapons, getting a feel for the cops.
I've been waiting SEVEN MONTHS for this to come out and here... It... Is...

| Grand Theft Auto San Andreas First Impressions Posted: Jun 8, 2005, at 08:02 AM Stored Under Topic: GAMING - GTA -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
My first impressions with the game are... WOW. The place is huge, in fact, the place is larger than VICE city ever could be. It's like they took the city and put it in proper perspective, rather than the short small buildings and small streets that were in Vice City.
The camera angle is now very difficult to get used to. You now have to control both the character or your car AND the camera at the same time. This makes it very difficult if you just stepped out of Vice City. You think the camera is going to re-orient but it doesn't and you realize that you have to control the camera. This can be extremely confusing in the beginning and I crashed into a shitload of buildings, pedestrians and what not. After about six hours, I was able to finally get the controls down to where I could speed around without too much trouble.
When it rains, the sound completely cuts out and all you hear is the rain. When the rain stops, the regular game sounds come back. I'm running on a Soundblaster 5.1 Surround LIVE card with a 5.1 surround system. Perhaps a patch will address this in the future. Also, I have had numerous crashes where GTA_SA just crashes to windows and is gone.
Motion Sickness. SA has no ability to set the refresh rate. So you can set your resolution to 1280x1024x32, but if you look away from your monitor, you can see the refresh rate is lower than 70hz. This can cause motion sickness in persons (like myself) and so I can only tolerate a couple hours of GTA at a time.
The game runs fluid on my 3.3g AMD with 1g ddr memory on a 256mb ATI Radeon 9800 XT. I did notice that when I turned the detail up to high and was running in 1280x1024x32, long distances would slow down and then speed back up. So you'd turn your character around slowly and it would slow down on certain places then catch back up. I finally had to turn the mapping down to low in order to play without having any speed slowdowns. I've heard from outside sources that everyone is having to turn them down, it's not just a single occurance.
The game is far more difficult than Vice City. You no longer have an "Aiming" graphic in the middle of your screen. In order to AIM, you actually have to assign the AIM to a keyboard key and press THAT while you are moving. This makes it even more insanely difficult for people just coming out of Vice City. I couldn't understand why I couldn't aim at anything and my blasts were missing everyone.
The game is dark. Way dark. GTA VC was like a cheap video game compared.
The graphics... I am not impressed with the cutscenes. You could easily see the texture meshing going from the bodies to the necks to the heads of the characters. They were all wrong. Its like somebody didn't blend it very well. Here we are in 2005 and the graphics look like something out of 1995. The hands and fingers are just big blocks with big blocky fingers. The heads are block textures. Comon RockStar, we're in the day of the many many polygons. You can move your polygon count UP from 10 you know, we can handle it.... I'm sorely dissapointed with the low polygon count. Note that the polygon count has nothing to do with the texture mapping on the menu, these are pre-rendered movie cutscenes. Even if you have them up on high, it still looks bad.
Storyline so far is very good, although I really seriously dislike having to eat constantly, go to the gym and keep the muscle mass up. Every day it's a repeated ritual of going to eat, and making sure you don't eat anything that is too fatty (you have FAT, Stamina, Muscle, Sexiness, etc... meters) and you have to run around and bike around to keep your mass up. Don't forget to go run into the ocean because people keep saying you stink. You need to shower? WTF? Ok, Ok, it's only day 2.
Back to playing.

| GTA San Andreas Day 2 Posted: Jun 9, 2005, at 08:51 AM Stored Under Topic: GAMING - GTA -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
So far I'm actually starting to kinda grasp the layout of the town. I know where a few items are and I've been able to stock up on pistols, armor, shotgun, AK-47, sniper rifle and molitov cocktails. The machine gun location still eludes me so I've been killing rival gang members and taking their stash.
Finished the Grove missions and that fat sonofabitch that takes me on rides all over. Doing some missions now for the guy that got out of jail and wants to be a DJ.
The hardest part I've found is there is no real key modification for upper-right, upper-left, lower-left, lower-right. So when you have to do the missions where you have to press up, down, left, right, etc to the music, I always fail on the diags because there is NO keyboard setup for that. Even trying to key that stuff in for the joystick doesn't work. When I had to do the DJ mission on the beach, I had to modify my keys again so that left and right, up/down were on the keypad, and even then the system really doesn't let you hit multiple keys at the same time. You end up missing a lot of the arrows. And that bitch that sits and tells you how bad you are, man, I failed the mission the first time and then had to shoot her ass.
This game is so totally different than Vice City. Having to eat, keep your fat down, keep your muscles up, train, get respect... It's odd, totally different. So my dude has big muscles, couple of tats, green pants, green tennis shoes, a green hankerchief on his head and face and a gold watch.
I need to find a way to get some cash, still under 10k on my cash unless I want to kill bangers.
One site I've found that I like is: http://gtadomain.gtagaming.com/

| GTA SA, Day 3 Posted: Jun 11, 2005, at 06:41 AM Stored Under Topic: GAMING - GTA -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Finally getting some respect. I've taken over pretty much all of the hood. Unfortunatly at the same time, I get a girlfriend. She calls me on the phone bitching at me that i'm missing dates with her.
Damn bitch, I gotta hood to run!
I took over a particularly nasty hood and she calls me. So I head down and get her on my bike. She wants to go fast, Ok, I speed down the road as fast as I can and jump off at the last moment. She and the bike smash into the building. She gets up and screams at me some more, so I pull out my desert eagle and I put two caps in her head.
'nuff said.
Off to get more hood.
Of course I realized by reading some of the forums that taking over the territories is useless. So a day spent taking them over was a waste because after a while, you end up loosing all of your territory and will have to start all over.

| Grand Theft Auto, The First Of Many Hours Of Gaming Posted: Feb 13, 2006, at 03:13 AM Stored Under Topic: GAMING - GTA -GUID- Posted By: Infymus | | |
Grand Theft Auto One - was awesome. Back in the day, Eric and I played it until we couldn't keep our eyelids open.
We would spend hours chasing each other around the cities. Because the map only had a finite amount of cars, and once cars blew up they were gone - we'd have to start moving into slower cars, busses and trucks. Once we even stole cars, blocked the streets off with them and filled a parking lot full of the fastest cars. With that we raced to find which car was the fastest - and the cop cars were wicked fast and totally unstable.
Very cool game indeed.
