I have desired a Mazda Miata MX-5 for quite a while now. My dealership I use in Bountiful knows this and gave me a call today. They received their quarterly allotment of 3 Miatas today and said they would hold one for me. When I got there, the other two were gone.
I picked up the MX-5 Automatic - yes, Automatic because the wife wants to drive it too - in Copper Red Mica with Tan Leather. While the order went in today, the car will not be built until November or first of December and should be here sometime in January.
I am totally excited.
Only 12 months before I actually get to lay my hands on it.
I will be parking it over the winter, covered and secure because it can't be driven in the winter. But it is going to be one hell of a summer car.

Talked with the Mazda Dealership today. My Miata MX-5 has been scheduled for 3rd week of December. I've already put good money down on it, ordered it with all the specifications and colors that I personally wanted.
That is so awesome.
The Miata I ordered is called a “PRT” or a Hard Top. It's a 2008, cherry red mica with tan interior. It will look just like this one, but in cherry-red.
Can't wait. It hasn't got a VIN number yet, but I am so excited.
Did I tell you how excited I am? I'm excited as hell.
Can't wait.
Best Christmas Present I will ever have.

On Friday I got a post card. On the front is a 2008 Mazda Miata MX5 PRHT in Copper Cherry Mica.
On the back it said... "I just wanted to say HI!"
Man, that is so awesome. How freaking cool is that? So I phoned up the dealer to see if my MX5 had a VIN yet... Nope, not yet, but I am excited as hell for this little car. And the best thing is that I don't have to park it outside covered with plastic and a car cover to keep it safe in the winter... I can park it in the garage now!
Only two more months to go before I get my hands on this baby.

Just got a call from Mazda. They said I have a VIN attached and my Miata will be finished being built on December 21st.
It'll take another month to get it shipped over, onto a boat, across the Pacific and into Port. Then a week or so to get it from there and across the country to Salt Lake.
Soon...
Soon...

I was informed today by the Mazda Dealership that my Mazda Miata MX5 - PRHT - has crossed the Pacific Ocean from Japan, landed in Portland Oregon - undergone a week of work (to install goodies that are not installed on the factory floor) and is ready to ship to Salt Lake.
Here is what my MX5 will look like:
The Dealer said that they could ship it to Salt Lake in rapid delivery by Thursday if I wanted it right now. I am heading out to the United Kingdom on Friday for two weeks of business, so I will not get a chance to pick this beauty up right now. So I declined and asked for regular delivery, meaning they will have it here within a week and a half - just in time for me to get back.
Tomorrow I sit down with the sales manager - of whom I've garnered a great relationship with - to haggle over the price and payment.
Soon... I will have a 2008 MX5 in my hands.
Very soon.
|
I spent about four hours today at the dealership haggling on the price. I got them down reasonably well, and they still made money off me.
Here is another picture of what my MX5 will look like:
The car payment on this one is going to be a little steeper than I'm used to - simply because I can't lease this MX5 - they don't lease them. No problem for the moment, but we have got to get our old house sold soon.
My MX5 will be here next weekend, but I will be in England. So it will be waiting for me when I get back on Saturday the 10th.
Only two more weeks come Saturday.

My MX5 is finally here. After working a half day, I headed over to the dealer. My MX5 was in the shop getting the clear nose mask installed. Lucky me, when I was in the UK, the interest rates were dropped another .50. And since I had not taken delivery of the car, we re-did the paperwork and I dropped my payment by almost $15 bucks and dropped nearly $900 dollars in interest off the back end. Good deal!
When they had it cleaned up and parked in the garage, I finally laid my eyes on her. Gorgeous. Oh my God this car is beautiful, every single inch of her.
My sales person ownes an MX5 - an older model - so he sat inside and showed me exactly where everything was. The top comes out in 12 seconds flat.
I drove it all the way home with the top down, it was 40F outside. I was grinning so hard that my face hurt.
What an absolutely beautiful car. Soon I will be able to drive her every day.

It is too bad that I can't drive this right now... She waits for me, parked in the garage...
Soon... When this goddamn forsaken bastard winter finally goes away... Soon...

When I sold my 2005 Legacy GT Sedan, I took the rims off (that I had paid $2500 for) and put them into storage. I tried selling them, but I never found a buyer in last year and 3 months. So they've been sitting in storage.
When I got my MX5, I tried putting them on, but the bolts wouldn't fit and I was concerned that the offset would be wrong.
Today I called Discount Tire where I bought them and asked if they'd fit. They said they would. So I went down and talked with them and for only $50 bucks, I walked off with new wheel displacers and twenty new bolts that would fit the Miata.
They fit perfectly. What an amazing feeling. To go from 205/45 17 inch to 235/40 18 inch is amazing. With Yokohama tires, this sucker is gonna stick. I may need to look at some springs down the road, but man, she is a beaut!
Very cool. Now, how come I haven't washed it? Well, it's only 50F out there and while I wore shorts to do some things in later the afternoon, I haven't got any hoses out and ready for washin.
Soon.

With the sun out most of the time now, it has been so enjoyable driving this little MX5 to work and back.
I actually got Kim to finally drive it to the pizza place and back. She was so scared to drive it, but she zipped it around the block and came back smiling.
