A: Infymus AKA Michael Hoenie runs this site. He lives in Salt Lake City where he works as a Senior Software Engineer. Married with two children. Q: Where did you come up with the alias, "Infymus" A: In 1982 I had only a couple encounters with computers. Later that year, my friend John and I were at his friend's house (who was wealthy), and he had an Atari 800 with an acoustic modem. He connected to a local Bulletin Board System (BBS) and I witnessed modulation communication for the first time. John turned the keyboard over to me and I was browsing the BBS when suddenly the Sysop came online and asked if I would log off because he was shutting down for the night. He asked me who I was, and I responded, "Lord Hoenie". He then changed over to the Queen's English and asked if I would part hence whilst he closed his shop down. I agreed, and logged. In 1982 I played a game called Ultima II - The Revenge Of The Enchantress. Lord British was the hero of the game - and was the hero of many Ultima games thenceforth all the way up to Ultima Online. Of course, Lord British was the alias of Richard Garriott who was the original creator of the Ultima Series. I loved the "Lord" "British" name so much I named myself Lord Hoenie. A few years later I was on a gaming system called The Scepter Of Goth and was a dungeon master (of which I subsequently met my first Girlfriend who converted me into Mormonism). My alias I decided at that time would be Infiltrator. As I played the system and worked it for a year, those who played nick named me Infy. It stuck. A year later I changed it from Infy to Infymus, and I've been that way since 1988. Today, a quick search for the alias, "Infymus" on the internet and in USNET groups will find a plethora of information. I've been around a long time in the networks. From the old packet networks of BBS to the TCP/IP communications of the Internet. Q: Aren't you afraid of providing so much personal detail? A: No, I'm not afraid at all. I've been around on the networks since 1982 and while most of that can never be archived, everything over the last ten years has been. Because I run sites like The Mormon Curtain, I have Mormons who are searching for dirt on me. They come to this site and run back to whatever hole they crawled out of and insatiate that I'm a bad father, or a bad person, and that when I write about how much I love my family - I must be lying. I really don't give a damn. I don't post addresses, I don't post phone numbers and I'm very obscure with pretty much everything I do. If someone runs off with one of my pictures to photoshop, more power to them. You can't live in fear. So no, I'm not afraid. |
